Spa Afternoon at Home

Spa Afternoon at Home

Last year, I co-hosted an all ladies spa party at my friend’s home. And surprisingly I enjoyed it so much. To be frank, I am not a kind of person who can spend hours in a saloon or a spa. Even for a simple haircut I am like, please do it quickly.
So, my friend asked me to co-host a simple spa party, knowing my love for arranging parties. I readily agreed.

So, we managed to find almost everything at home.. from the decor to the kits to food. It had to be simple yet spectacular.

We transformed her living room into an oasis. We used a lavender scent diffuser ( the ones which you get on Diwali and never use) because the fragrance of aromatherapy candles becomes too much sometimes. And maybe all the guests won’t like it. We used some indoor planters to enhance the mood and it also uplifted the room. She had a serene small waterfall kept in the corner which worked like magic.

An important element is the music. We used some soft bollywood songs like ‘piya basanti’ and ‘deewana’ (I just love Sonu Nigam). This was our teenage music, we grew up listening.

Then we used whatever trays we had, at both our homes, to transform them into spa carts. (Budget friendly)

All the budget cuts on decor, helped us to manage elite and hygienic spa treatments for everyone.
1. Fresh warm towels. A must. They also add on to the decor part. Buy new hand towels and steam them.
2. Then we created a facial bar so that all the girls can pick and choose according to their skin type
It included:
• Coconut oil + brown sugar scrub (homemade and very effective)
• Organic banana face mask for all skin types (half banana + 1 tbspn orange juice + 1 tbspn honey)
• Breakfast mask for oily skin ( 1 egg yolk + 1 tbspn honey + 1 tbspn olive oil + 1/2 cup oats)
• Papaya mask for skin pigmentation (2 tbspn honey + half cup papaya, blended)
• Honey Citrus mask for glow (3 tbspn orange juice + 1/4 cup honey)
• Buttery mask for hydration and dry skin ( 1/2 cup buttermilk i.e. chachh + 2 tbspn yogurt) This was most loved by all. Left skin so smooth.
• Rosewater for toner
• Cucumber slices for eyes
• Light face moisturiser
3. Manicure, pedicure station. (This one was the expensive one). We bought small tubs for soaking hands and feet. Put warm water and some rose petals in it. These stations also had individual mason jars containing nail cutters, cotton balls, pumice stone, foot scrubber, small shea butter body cream etc. Nail polishes were available in common colours.
4. Coconut Oil to give hand and shoulder massage to each other.

So, yes. It was elaborate. But then, with all the chitchat and a girls afternoon, who would complain.

The upside: most of the above ingredients were available at home only. You can always add or subtract a few according to your choice. Also, we kept small containers in case anybody wants to take home some of the treatment.

Now, the food part.
We prepared the welcome drink the previous night. It was cucumber, lemon and mint infused water, both refreshing and detoxifying.
Rest of the afternoon, we served iced and normal tea both. Fruit smoothies such as watermelon smoothie is also a great option. We kept the food menu light and small.

  • Fresh salad
  • Grilled veggie sandwiches
  • Pesto bruschetta with tomatoes (can be made easily at home)
  • Veg Sushi (which we ordered from outside)
  • Tandoori momos (again, from a restaurant)
  • For dessert I made my delicious biscuit-pineapple pudding. Simple, moist and oh so yum.

Although we didn’t do any party favours but a good idea would be a goody bag containing spa items (such as homemade facial, nail polish, lip balm, chocolate) or some fuzzy socks.

As you can see, it was an easy and oh so fun party. Every single person enjoyed. It gave us a much needed, relaxing me – time.
Do consider this for your next kitty or just like that.

P.S. This is a great idea for mother’s day or her birthday.
