There is no way this lockdown is going to prevent us from celebrating birthdays. I had already posted some ideas for celebrating kid’s birthdays in lockdown and here are some more games for quarantine party.
You might want to visit my post Quarantine Party for a complete list of lockdown party ideas, gifting and recipes.
Plan a virtual party on Google meet. Send out e-invites with instructions about the time and things to keep handy. Let’s see what all we can do.
1. Virtual scavenger hunt (A template is given at the end of the post. You may want to download it)
Make a list of common items in the household. You can even involve parents to hide these things. Then call out the item name and the first kid to return to screen with that item, gets 1 point. Some examples of common items are –
Ball
Something blue
Something fuzzy
Pencil
Dog
Something square
A paper
Crayon
Action figure
Building Block
Something shiny
A toy gun
2. Keep the balloon up
For this, you need to know whether every kid has access to a balloon. Then they have to keep the inflated balloon in the air for 3 min without touching the ground
3. Minute to win it games
Play two or three ‘minute to win it’ games with everyday objects. For some awesome ideas you can search youtube. Its filled with minute to win games for kids, adults, kids vs family and so on.
4. Create
This is a great fun game. You may send each kid a pack of play- doh or they may use kneaded atta (flour used to make roti) for the same. Remember each kid must have the same thing. Then call out a thing’s name and they have to make it in under 30 sec.
A dog
A flower
A snake
A cube
A ball
A birthday party item
5. Sing
Time to cut the cake and sing the birthday song.
6. Hire an entertainer
Many entertainers are offering their services online such as magician, story teller or a puppeteer. You may hire them for some virtual fun.
You may also send some homemade cookies or muffins along with the invite which they all can enjoy together. Don’t forget to decorate your home!
Variations for teens and older kids :
– Buy any game online, like Jack in the box party game. Go to Google Hangout and share the screen with friends who have already been invited a day or two before the party.
– Challenge your friends to Monopoly or Uno online games. This will be fun and many friends can play it together.
– There is a free version of Mario Kart tour available online which can be played by upto 7 people.
– Have a zoom or Skype video conference and turn it into a sleepover kind of party. But everyone will be in the comfort of their home.
Please do some research for this. What game your kid and his friends would like to play, what video chat platform will you use etc.
Make him his favourite food and let him enjoy. But please don’t hover over him when he is with his friends.
Go on! Make this one a special one for your kid!!
P.S: In my suggestion, please keep your guest list small. 6-7 kids max because it gets difficult to play games with large group.
