Half Sleepover Party

Half Sleepover Party

When I was growing up, I used to watch movies with kids having slumber parties and sleepovers. They had their little tents, reading ghost stories inside and lying in sleeping bags. It felt really exciting. But whenever I asked my mummy papa for this, they always refused. And needless to say, my friends’ parents refused too.

Fast forward to 2015. I have a cousin who is 15 years younger to me. So, when she demanded the same on her birthday, surprisingly my chacha said yes. (Although he believes in the same ideology as my father).

I too attended her slumber party. Half slumber party to be precise. It’s just like an actual sleepover, kids wearing their night suits, watching movie together, but without the actual sleepover part.

So, I had my 4 year old son, crashing her party and of course her other siblings, who didn’t mind meddling in her party at all.

The invites were send a week in advance so that number of kids could be confirmed. Thankfully, all the parents were cool with leaving the kids at our home, till 10 pm.

There was no decoration required for this party. We wanted to put up some balloons but the birthday girl said no. She felt balloons are for little kids.

The timeline was a little later than usual parties. The party started at 6pm.
Guests arrived and after having light snacks, we cut the home baked cake. Then their was a half an hour long jam session. Bollywood, punjabi, english. We played all the favourites of the birthday girl. The kids danced and screamed and danced. Of course her siblings were also there high fiving and dancing.

This got the kids really hungry. The dinner was served at around 730 pm.
It was not so elaborate as the kids were already stuffed with snacks and cake. It included vegetable burgers along with potato fries. There was a salad bar also where the kids could add on to their burger with their choice of sauce and mayo.

Then all of them changed into their PJs and settled on the mattresses, already laid out in the living room. We played a movie ‘Inside Out’ as it was the latest and most of them hadn’t watched it. Large tubs of popcorn and milkshakes were passed around. Everyone enjoyed including me.

Then their parents came to pick them at around 10 pm. We gave them a customised t-shirt each, as a memoir of their fun time together. Needless to say, I relived my childhood and would surely arrange a party like this for my kids.

Take a peek at other birthday themes for teens, tweens and young kids.

Although we go for vacation once a year, the whole work and family life give us very little time to be together. And even if we do get an hour or so, most of the time we are on our devices.
